Thurston County Activates the Emergency Coordination Center to Respond to Rochester Fires
The level 3 evacuation remains in place

​OLYMPIA – At 3:30 p.m. today Thurston County Emergency Management activated the Emergency Coordination Center to coordinate response to the wildfires burning near Rochester, WA.

The fires lines are currently holding while the Department of Natural Resources and local agency fire crews are responding with ground crews and air drops.

The fire, which started near 183rd Avenue SW between Guava Street and Case Road. It quickly grew to more than 150-acres, causing the evacuation of 100 homes. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is asking evacuees to wait to return to their homes until they receive an all clear.

The reunification site and shelter is available at the Rochester LDS Church located at 18501 Paulson Street Southwest, Rochester.

One business at 183rd Street and Loganberry Street has burned and six additional structures have been lost. The structures include four primary residents and two barns.

The Rochester Soup Kitchen at 18214 Corvallis Street Southwest is open until 10:00 p.m. tonight and from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.
