Background:
The Grand Mound and Rochester Subareas are located in south western Thurston County, approximately 15 miles southwest of the Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater metropolitan area. The Grand Mound Urban Growth Area is comprised of approximately 950 acres and the Rochester subarea is roughly 9,500 acres of rural and mixed-use lands.

In the early 1990s, the County worked with the communities to develop a land-use plan for the Grand Mound and Rochester subareas. The plans contain goals and policies aimed at achieving the community’s vision. In 2018, Thurston County will be re-engaging with the community to begin updating the land-use planning for the subareas.

Community involvement is key, and there will be many opportunities for the public to provide input and feedback throughout the planning process.
