Auditor's Financial Services Team Awarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting
OLYMPIA, WA – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States (GFOA) has awarded Thurston County with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The Certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting. 2017 marks the 11th consecutive year the work of the Auditor's Financial Services team has earned the honor for the county.
"The award reflects Thurston County's commitment to transparency and open government," said Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall. "It also reflects the incredible dedication of our Financial Services team and the staff working every day to provide our county with strong financial guidance and reporting. We have a gold medal team."
The Auditor's Financial Services team provides direct financial services and guidance to Thurston County offices and departments in the areas of accounting, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, financial reporting and grants management.
The Financial Services team produces a CAFR each year, which provides a comprehensive look at county finances. Each CAFR covers a fiscal year (January 1 through December 31). Thurston County is one of only a few counties in Washington that goes beyond the requirements of the Washington State Auditor's Office to produce a CAFR instead of a basic Annual Financial Report. CAFRs are available on the Thurston County Auditor's website.
