OLYMPIA, WA – Earlier this month, the Council of State Governments (CSG) invited Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall to participate on a national elections cybersecurity advisory group as part of the organization's Election Cybersecurity Communications Mapping Initiative.
Washington State is one of eight states represented on the advisory group and Hall the lone local government representative from the state.
"I am honored to represent Washington's local election officials on this critical initiative," said Hall. "Election cybersecurity is the most pressing challenge election officials face today, and I'm excited to lend my voice and expertise to shaping national strategies and resources for states."
The Election Cybersecurity Communications Mapping Initiative is a partnership between CSG and the Democracy Fund. The initiative's advisory group, composed of officials from state and local governments in eight states across CSG's four regions, will guide the effort.
Auditor Hall was selected for her technical knowledge, including 22 years as an elections administrator, and her background in software development.
The advisory group will meet over the coming months to discuss strategies, resources, and best practices for elections cybersecurity communications. In December the Initiative will release a toolkit as a resource for state and local election officials.
