OLYMPIA, WA – Beginning Friday, August 31, in-person vehicle and vessel licensing services will be unavailable across the state while the Department of Licensing (DOL) replaces a legacy database. Vehicle and vessel licensing services will resume on Tuesday, September 4.
In Thurston County, vehicle and vessel licensing services at the Auditor's Office and local subagents will be unavailable during the upgrade. Online services, including tab renewals, will not be available beginning August 29 at 8:30 p.m. until Tuesday, September 4.
"Customer who need to conduct vehicle and vessel licensing transaction should try to do so before the outage," said Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall. "Residents have convenient options for conducting vehicle and vessel licensing transactions, including online services and Thurston County's eight local licensing subagents."
The database replacement is the second phase of DOL's DRIVES project rollout, which replaces the agency's legacy systems. The first phase, which updated the vehicle and vessel licensing systems, took place in December 2016. The second phase will replace the existing drivers license system and integrate it with the vehicle and vessel licensing systems. For more information, see DOL's news release.
