Thurston County is working to keep more reusable materials out of the landfill. One way we’re doing that is by partnering with organizations to place clean, accessible book drop-off bins at County facilities so the public has an easy place to donate books for reuse.
Partner organizations are expected to:
- Install weatherproof donation bins at County facilities.
- Maintain all bins, including keeping them free of litter and vandalism.
- Provide a reliable and frequent service schedule.
- Be transparent about where donated materials go and share supporting data.
- Sign a formal agreement with the County.
- Preferably be a local or regional 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Questions can be sent to ThurstonSolidWaste@co.thurston.wa.us.
Applications will be reviewed based on the information provided, and the County will choose the partner that best fits our needs and finalize the partnership through a contract or agreement.
To make sure we’re offering the best book-reuse services to the community, partnerships are limited to five years. After that, the County will reopen the opportunity to all interested organizations—including the current partner—and will evaluate everyone equally.
