Please bring waste in five-gallon containers or smaller. No broken, leaking, or empty containers (excluding propane containers) will be accepted at the HazoHouse.

Limitation: Alkaline batteries are not accepted. Batteries must weigh less than 2 pounds each and be placed in individual plastic bags.
Biomedical/Medical Waste Not Accepted. For information on how to dispose of unwanted medication, visit Thurston County Public Health & Social Services.
Chemicals/Cleaners Limitation: 5 gallons per vehicle per day. Chemicals must remain in original containers and must not be empty or leaking.
Cooking Oil Not Accepted.

Electronic Waste (E-Waste)

Not Accepted. To find an electronics recycling location near you, please visit ecyclewa.org. The Washington State Department of Ecology coordinates collection sites and enforces the law through the E-Cycle Washington program. Electronics brought to the Thurston County Waste & Recovery Center or Rainier & Rochester Drop-Box Facilities will be disposed of as municipal solid waste, for a fee. Please note that an $18 special handling fee applies to dispose of TVs or monitors.

Limitation: Only Aerosols and Road Flares are accepted. For Aerosols, containers must not be empty or leaking. Ammunition/Reloading Material, Fireworks, and Signal/Marine Flares are strictly prohibited.

Limitation: 10 per vehicle per day. No broken bulbs or light tubes taped together. If possible, transport in original boxes/containers. Ballasts labeled "No PCBs" should be disposed of as garbage.

Limitation: Place in original containers or two sealable plastic bags. No broken items.

Paint-Related Materials

Limitation: 10 gallons per vehicle per day.
Pesticides/Herbicides Limitation: 5 gallons per vehicle per day.
Pool & Hobby Chemicals Limitation: 5 gallons per vehicle per day.

Propane Containers

  • Standard Barbeque

  • Small/Narrow
Limitation: 3 propane tanks per vehicle per day. No individual containers exceeding 5 gallons. 
Radioactive Waste Not Accepted.
