Thurston County Ancillary Waste Reduction Partnership Program

Thurston County is making a concerted effort to increase landfill diversion.

One way it is working toward this goal is by providing accessible and well-maintained book drop-off bins to the public through public-private partnerships. These drop-off bins, placed at County facilities, allow the public a convenient location to drop off book donations for reuse.

Thurston County book reuse partnering organizations are expected to meet the following standards:

· Partner is responsible for installing weatherproof donation bins at County facilities.

· Partner must insure and maintain all donation bins. This includes keeping bins free of litter and vandalism.

· Partner must provide a frequent and reliable service schedule for all bins.

· Partner must maintain transparency around final destination of all materials collected through the partnership and provide supporting data.

· Partner must sign an agreement between the partner organization and the County.

· Preference will be given to local or regional 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Interested organizations should complete the below application form and return via email to ThurstonSolidWaste@co.thurston.wa.us by 5pm on Friday, February 28.

Book Bin Donation Partnership Application

More information about Thurston County’s Solid Waste Division can be found at thurstonsolidwaste.org and questions can be directed to ThurstonSolidWaste@co.thurston.wa.us.

Applications will be evaluated based on the responses received and a partnership will be established through a contract/agreement with the partner that is best for the County.

To ensure the best book reuse services for the public, partnerships are limited to five years. After five years, the County will open the partnership opportunity to interested organizations, including the current partnering organization. The County will then evaluate all potential partnerships.
