Electronics
Thurston County does not accept electronics for recycling at any of our facilities, at this time. Electronics brought to the Thurston County Waste & Recovery Center or Rainier & Rochester Drop-Box Facilities will be disposed of as municipal solid waste, for a fee. Please note that an $18 special handling fee applies to dispose of TVs or monitors. For electronics recycling information, please see below.
Electronics Recycling:
Manufacturers are required by state law to offer recycling services for certain electronic items at no cost to individuals, nonprofits, small businesses, schools, and local governments. The law took effect January 1, 2009 and applies to the following items only:
- TVs
- Desktop computers
- Laptop computers
- Monitors
- E-book readers (such as the Kindle and the Nook)
- Portable DVD players
To find an electronics recycling location near you, please visit ecyclewa.org. The Washington State Department of Ecology coordinates collection sites and enforces the law through the E-Cycle Washington program.
