What Law Library Staff Can Do

The Thurston County Law Library is not staffed on a full-time basis. When available, staff can assist you in your legal research but cannot do research for you or give you legal advice. If you need legal advice, you should contact an attorney.

 

What law library staff can do:

  • Explain how to use legal resources.
  • Help you locate a particular statute or case when you have a specific reference or citation.
  • Direct you to sources of law, including statutes and cases.
  • Direct you to forms, court rules, and books about the law.
  • Recommend sources to start your research.
  • Give you information about legal aid organizations and other agencies.

     

What law library staff cannot do:

  • Interpret statutes, cases, or regulations.
  • Tell you which statutes, cases, or regulations for your situation.
  • Tell you which forms to use or how to fill out forms.
  • Tell you how to file a document, what document to file, or how to proceed with court actions.
  • Give legal opinions or advice, including how the law applies to the facts of your case. 
  • Recommend an attorney.
