To the citizens of Thurston County:
As president of the Thurston County Fairboard, I voice the regret of the entire board that the decision was made to close the fair. Historically, there have only been two other times when the fair closed for medical reasons – the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918 and the Polio scare in the early 1950s. Now again, with a heavy heart, the fair board made the recommendation to the county commissioners that we close the fair. It was not an easy decision to make, taking into consideration the fact that 4-H and FFA members, in particular, would not be able to exhibit their projects. We ARE, however, going to have some sort of sale for the members who have been raising animals for the market sale so they can re-coop their expenses.
On a brighter note, we ARE looking forward to 2021 when we will celebrate the 150th birthday of the county fair. We plan to have a great celebration with a fair that is "Still nifty at 150." We hope to see you all at this historic event AND that you will consider participating as well.
Ann Shipley, President
Thurston County Fairboard
