Thurston County is working to reduce landfill waste by offering convenient book donation bins through public-private partnerships. These bins, placed at county solid waste facilities, provide a simple way for the public to donate books for reuse.

Organizations interested in partnering with the county must meet these requirements:

  • Provide and maintain weatherproof donation bins at county locations.
  • Insure and maintain all donation bins by keeping them clean and free from vandalism.
  • Offer a regular pick-up service for all bins.
  • Be transparent about the final use of the donated materials and provide supporting data.
  • Sign an agreement with the county.
  • Preference will be given to local 501(c)(3) nonprofits.

Organizations can apply by emailing the completed form to ThurstonSolidWaste@co.thurston.wa.us by Friday, February 28 at 5pm.

Applications will be reviewed, and the best-fit organization will be selected for a partnership, with an agreement lasting up to five years.
