Community Invited to Annual Thurston County Preparedness Expo
Join experts Saturday, September 20 at the Olympia Center for this free event.
OLYMPIA – Emergency management experts from the Thurston County Emergency Management Council invite the community to the annual Preparedness Expo for a day of learning, connection, and community safety. The expo will be hosted at The Olympia Center on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. This free, family-friendly event offers hands-on activities, and valuable resources to help individuals and families prepare for emergencies.
The expo is part of National Preparedness month which takes place every September. This year’s theme is "Preparedness Starts at Home." Emergency managers in the county encourage preparedness by advising residents to know local risks, make a family emergency plan, build an emergency supply kit, and get involved in the community.
“Preparedness starts with you,” said Kyle Bustad, Thurston County Emergency Management Manager. “By taking small steps now, we can protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our community when disasters strike.”
Visitors to the Expo can explore interactive booths, meet local emergency responders, and learn essential skills—from creating a family emergency plan to assembling a disaster supply kit. The event will feature demonstrations, informational materials, and opportunities to connect with organizations dedicated to keeping Thurston County safe.
Activities and resources can help people who may be new to plan preparation, as well as those who already have a plan in place - the Preparedness Expo is the perfect opportunity for first-time planners and those who want to strengthen an existing plan.
