November 25, 2024 - A new Washington state law goes into effect on January 1. State Bill 5290 requires all permit development agencies (like Thurston County Permitting) to shorten permitting timelines. In the past, we accepted incomplete application packets as a courtesy to our customers, but starting January 1 the process changes. 

  • Permit timelines: Shortens the time for permitting. 
  • Permit fees change: The new fees will be posted in 2025.
  • Submittal and review requirements: Changes submittal and review requirements.
  • Application review timelines and standards: Brings the county's application review timelines into line with state law.
