Thurston County’s permitting base fees haven’t changed since 2009. But the cost of processing permits has with inflation and new state requirements. The fee update reflects the work involved and allows for an improved permit experience.

Updated Planning & Land Use Fees

  • One-time, up-front fees for land use and planning applications.
  • Fees adjusted based on project scale and complexity.
  • New fees for noticing and outreach.

 

Updated Building Permit Valuations

  • Building valuations are being brought up to ICC 2025 standards from 2008. This ensures fees reflect real project costs.
  • Adjusted permit review and inspection fees to cover full cost of service.

 

Technology Fee

  • 5% technology fee will apply to Thurston County permits to support digital permitting tools. This includes the launch and maintenance of Accela.

 

Dedicated Funding for Required State and Federal Permits

  • Adjusted applicable habitat mitigation fees and permit exempt well fees to support mandated restoration projects.
