OLYMPIA – Thurston County Commissioner-Elect Rachel Dreon is sharing significant personal updates ahead of her swearing-in ceremony on December 17, 2024. On December 13, in a private moment with close family, she married her partner, Jeff, and officially adopted her new name.

“Jeff and I are grateful to begin this next chapter together, and I look forward to serving Thurston County as Rachel Grant,” said Commissioner-Elect Dreon. “I want to ensure that voters are aware of this name change as I step into office, and I remain fully committed to representing our community with integrity and care.”

In addition to her marriage, Rachel also shared a deeply personal family update: her 21-year-old son, Cooper, was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL).

“This has been a bittersweet time for our family—celebrating a major milestone while navigating a challenging diagnosis,” said Grant. “We’re facing it all with strength, hope, and the incredible support of those around us.”

All official communications and correspondence will reflect Rachel’s new name, Rachel Grant, starting December 14, 2024. She is prepared to begin her term January 1 and serve the people of Thurston County with the same passion and dedication she has always had.
