OLYMPIA – Thurston County is pleased to announce that it has received a clean accountability audit report from the Washington State Auditor's Office for the period January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2023. The audit found that county operations complied, in all material respects, with applicable state laws, regulations, and its own policies, and provided adequate controls over the safeguarding of public resources.

“This clean audit report is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our county employees,” said Tye Menser, Chair of the Board of County Commissioners. “We are committed to being good stewards of taxpayer dollars and ensuring efficient and effective government operations.”

The audit examined a variety of areas, including procurement, budget compliance, accounts receivable, personal and business use of county credit cards, cash receipting, payroll, jail operations, compliance with state grants, use of restricted funds, and open public meetings. The county received positive results in all areas examined.

“Credit for our clean audits goes to our talented staff, who uphold our sound policies and foster a county-wide culture of accountability," said Mary Hall, Thurston County Auditor.
