The Thurston County Waste & Recovery Center reopened to self-haul garbage customers on Thursday April 3rd, after being closed to self-haul garbage due to repairs on its compactor. Repairs on the compactor are complete and the facility at 2420 Hogum Bay Rd NE, Lacey, Washington is open Monday-Friday 7 a.m.–4:45 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday: 8 a.m.–4:45 p.m. For more details about garbage self-haul locations, hours and fees, visit the county's garbage webpage

Thurston County Waste & Recovery Center is Closed to Self-Haul Garbage Drop Off on April 1st & 2nd
The facility is still accepting yard, food and hazardous waste, and recycling.   

LACEY -  Due to equipment issues, the Thurston County Waste & Recovery Center at 2420 Hogum Bay Rd NE, Lacey, WA 98516 will be closed to self-haul garbage drop off on Tuesday, April 1st and Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025. The garbage compactor at the facility is down for repairs which is significantly impacting the amount of waste that can be received. 

Although the facility will not be able to accept drop off of self-haul garbage during this time, it is still accepting:

  • Food & Yard Waste drop-off
  • Recycling drop-off
  • Hazardous waste disposal

The Waste & Recovery Center encourages customers to plan their visits accordingly. You can visit the county's solid waste webpage for closure updates and more information.
