Primary Vaccine Doses
Anyone age 5 and older may receive the Pfizer vaccine two dose series, given 21 days apart.
Anyone age 6 months and older may receive the Pfizer vaccine three dose series. The first two doses are given 21 days apart. The third dose is given 8 weeks after the second dose.
Anyone age 6 months and older may receive the Moderna vaccine two dose series, given 28 days apart.
Anyone age 18 and older may receive the single dose Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine.
Immunocompromised Individuals
Children ages 5 through 11 years who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should receive a primary series of 3 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. A 2nd dose given 21 days after 1st dose. A 3rd dose given at least 28 days after 2nd dose
A booster is not recommended for this age group at this time.
People ages 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should receive a total of 4 doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine to stay up to date. The 4 doses include a primary series of 3 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, plus 1 booster of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (4th dose) given 3 months after the third additional dose.
People ages 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised and got 2 doses (1 primary dose and 1 booster) of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine. The CDC recommends that these individuals receive either a Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for a booster dose two months or more after receiving their second dose. Children ages 5-17 are only eligible for a Pfizer vaccine.
Booster Doses for Non-Immunocompromised Individuals
Everyone ages 5 years and older can get 1 booster after completing their COVID-19 vaccine primary series.
Anyone age 5 and older who received a Pfizer or Moderna two dose COVID-19 vaccine series is eligible for a booster dose five months or more after completing their two-dose series. The CDC recommends that individuals receive either a Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for a booster dose. Children ages 5-17 are only eligible for a Pfizer vaccine.
Anyone age 50 and older who received a Pfizer or Moderna two dose COVID-19 vaccine series and a booster dose is eligible for a second booster dose five months or more after receiving their first booster dose. Second booster doses are also available for people who got 2 doses (1 primary dose and 1 booster) of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.
