The 58th Annual County Commissioners Pancake Breakfast Returns

OLYMPIA – Thurston County Fair week is here! That means it is time for the County Commissioners to don their aprons, grab their spatulas, and get ready to serve up some free pancakes at this year's 58th Annual County Commissioners Pancake Breakfast.

That's right, Thurston County Commissioners have been hosting a Pancake Breakfast since at least 1960! This year's Pancake Breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

"We are proud to be a part of this longstanding tradition," said Commission Chair, Bud Blake.

The first Pancake Breakfast was held as a way for County Commissioners to say thank you to the 4-H kids participating in the Thurston County Fair. Since then, it has grown into a Fair tradition, where all fairgoers are invited to join in for a great breakfast before the festivities begin.

Since 1960, every breakfast has been paid for by the commissioners who were in office at the time of the event. For many years, Thurston County Corrections has helped by providing cooking utensils and other equipment needed to make the event a success.

The Pancake Breakfast is a family friendly event. Other elected officials and County leaders volunteer at the Pancake Breakfast, making it a great community building experience for Thurston County and fun way to interact with citizens.

"We had a great turn out from the community and staff at last year's Pancake Breakfast, and hope to see many more of you this year," said Commission Vice-Chair, John Hutchings.

After breakfast, be sure to enjoy the Thurston County Fair! While you're there, take the time to share your experiences on social media by using #ThurstonCountyFair. Select photos will be featured on the Thurston County Facebook page.

"It's great seeing all the children with their families at the Pancake Breakfast and Fair," said Commissioner Gary Edwards. "I always say children may only be 30% of our population, but they are 100% of our future."

The Pancake Breakfast is free with fair admission. Regular fair admission is $7 for adults, $6 for citizens 60 and older, and $5 for youth ages 6-14. Admission for children five and younger is free. Carnival armbands are $30 and must be purchased at the Carnival Booth during fair week.
