National Public Works Week is May 20 - 26, and Thurston County has a lot of dedicated public works professionals to celebrate.
This year the Public Works Department was awarded a Project of the Year Award for the August 2017 Beaver Creek Dr. bridge installation from the American Public Works Association's Washington Chapter. It was selected in the “Environmental Projects Under $5 Million."
Also in 2018, Traffic
Engineering and Operations Section Manager, Scott Davis, was named the 2018 David P. Brand Safety Award recipient -
a prestigious lifetime achievement award from the National Association of County Engineers. For more than 20 years, Davis has worked to protect Thurston County residents and visitors by enhancing roadway safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
This year the Public Works Department also received approval from the Board of County Commissioners to begin working on five projects that will remove fish blockages
in local streams. Removing these blockages will provide salmon access to an additional seven-and-a-half miles of streams that have been blocked for decades.
In this short video, Jennifer Walker, Thurston County Public Works Director, explains all the services public works professionals provide to keep our community healthy, moving, and ready for the future.
