Auditor's Office Urges Voters Against Fictitious Write-ins
Fictitious names on ballots costs taxpayer money

OLYMPIA, WA – The Thurston County Auditor's Office urges voters not to write in the names of fictional characters on the primary election ballot.

"Voters who don't wish to vote on any candidate in a race should simply leave it blank—all other votes will count," said Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall. "Processing fictitious ballot write-ins costs taxpayers' money.
If you complete the oval, there is no need to write in their name."

The Thurston County Auditor's Office has produced a series of public service announcements, available on ThurstonVotes.org and YouTube, urging citizens not to write in fictitious candidates.

Persons who wish to be formal write-in candidates must file a write-in declaration no later than Friday, July 17.
