Sept. 29 Public Hearing on School Size Amendment
Public comment invited on code amendment

OLYMPIA -The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 29 at 3:00 p.m. to accept public testimony on removing building size limits at existing academic schools in rural areas.

For more detailed information about the proposed development code amendment, and to view the full text of the draft ordinance, go to www.ThurstonPlanning.org and click on the link for the September 29 Board of County Commissioners hearing under the "News and Links" section.

In 2007, the Thurston County Development Code was amended adding several new zoning districts and placing new building size restrictions in these new rural zones as well as the existing rural residential resource, one unit per five acre zoning district. The intent of the building size limit is to prohibit large urban structures in rural areas of the county. An unintended consequence is limiting the expansion of essential public facilities such as schools which are compatible with rural residential character.
