New Committee Helps Focus Agritourism Efforts in Thurston County
County Commissioners vote to establish Agritourism Advisory Committee

OLYMPIA - Thurston County Commissioners today voted to officially establish an Agritourism Advisory Committee. The 7-member committee will make recommendations to County Commissioners regarding various issues including the county's Agritourism Overlay District and the Thurston Bountiful Byway.

Under a memorandum of understanding, the committee will work with the Olympia Lacey Tumwater Visitor and Convention Bureau ("OLTVCB") to develop a Marketing Plan for the Thurston Bountiful Byway. Other committee duties could include review of membership applications from interested businesses, nonprofit organizations, or governmental entities.

Thurston County Commissioner Sandra Romero says the new committee is a labor of love for supporters across the county. "It is my hope, that by creating the Agritourism Advisory Committee, and by entering into this Memorandum of Understanding with the Visitor and Convention Bureau, we will be able to promote a new kind of tourism in Thurston County. This tourism program will highlight the bounty of our region and showcase not only the beauty of the area but the hospitality of our rural citizens."

Membership on the Agritourism Advisory Committee is open to the public. For more information visit http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/bocc/boards-list.htm
