OCTOBER 20 HEARING ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO COUNTY WIDE PLANNING POLICIES
Public comment invited

OLYMPIA - The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, October 20 at 3:00 p.m. to accept public testimony on proposed changes to the county’s County-Wide Planning Policies.

For more detailed information about the proposed amendment, and to view the full text of the draft changes, go to www.ThurstonPlanning.org and click on the link for the October 20 Board of County Commissioners hearing under the "News and Links" section or visit: http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/planning/countywide/countywide-home.html.

Background: The County-Wide Planning Policies are the shared policy statements that provide a framework for developing and adopting comprehensive plans and development regulations for the jurisdictions within Thurston County: Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, Bucoda, Rainier, Tenino, and Yelm, as well as Thurston County. In 2014, a subcommittee of representatives from these jurisdictions worked together to develop a set of recommended updates to the County-Wide Planning Policies. The proposed changes incorporate the foundational principles and policies of the Sustainable Thurston plan, strengthen language protecting rural lands, clarify annexation processes and development standard agreements among jurisdictions, fix formatting, and eliminate out-of-date references.
