Prather Road in Thurston County Re-Opens
Damaged roadway means one lane open to passenger cars only

OLYMPIA - A section of Prather Road in Southwest Thurston County has been reopened after a crack developed in the roadway. The crack and the potential for downhill sliding of the roadway, caused the closure this past Sunday. The impacted area is between Oregon Trail Road SW and Lundeen Road SW.

Thurston County Roads crews performed temporary fixes to the road and have now installed an automated traffic signal in the area that allows for alternating one-way traffic. In order to protect the driving public, travel through the area is limited to passenger and emergency vehicles only.

Public Works Director Ramiro Chavez says getting the road open for area residents was a priority. "We appreciate the patience of folks who live in the area while the road was shut down. We wanted to get some resolution for the issue but also needed to make sure that people are safe."

Crews will continue to watch the roadway and determine the permanent fixes and work toward full re-opening of Prather Road. Currently there is no actual schedule when the road will be fully opened. Officials also continue to monitor other south Thurston County roads that were impacted by heavy rains earlier this week.
