Thurston County Residents Can Now Track Road Incidents On Line
New interactive feature launched

OLYMPIA -A new interactive web page makes it easy and simple for people to track closures and other incidents that impact travel on county roads. Public Works staff has been working on the new feature since this fall and it was recently launched. The new on-line function came out of the need for a central location for road closure information for the public, the county's Emergency Coordination Center and Public Works, especially during weather events.

Thurston County Public Works Director Ramiro Chavez says the page is simple to navigate. "Once you're on the page, you simply find the road you are looking for and click on the yellow or red "pin". That brings up a box containing specific information about the situation; a road closure for instance. There may also be links to other information from there, such as when the road is impacted by construction crews."

The map may be used for all road open/closed/restricted events including construction and maintenance. It is set up for Flood, Snow/Ice, Vegetation Management and Emergencies. Additionally, if there are detours, a link may be set up to show detour maps. Information for any location can be updated at any time until the situation is resolved and the "pin" goes green.

The new page can be accessed by clicking on the "Road Closures" link from the Thurston County Public Works page, or by clicking the direct link below. http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/publicworks/2015/RoadStatusMap.aspx
