Patience urged during project that will impact the off-leash park and park and ride
OLYMPIA - A major traffic and safety project should get underway in the next 30 days or so at the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center (WARC) off of Hogum Bay Road. Thurston County Commissioners have awarded the WARC Access Road project to Active Construction Inc. of Puyallup, at their bid price of $988,856.97. The contract bid came in under the engineers estimates.-30-
Major work includes removal of the existing access road which is located on top of landfill material, re-grading and re-paving the access road and the Off Leash Park parking lot. Other components of the project include stormwater improvements, improved channelization, lighting, additional parking, improved security and more.
Construction Manager Brandon Hicks says steps are being taken to minimize impacts and make use of the WARC as easy as possible during construction. "Hundreds of county residents use the WARC each day and one of our main goals is to make access to the facility as simple as possible. We ask that folks have some patience while we improve the roadway and parking lots."
Work will be performed during normal business hours (approximately 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) on weekdays for this reconstruction project. More than 700 vehicles use this entrance each day to access the WARC and dog park. A combination of traffic signs, reader boards and flaggers will help direct traffic during construction. The project is expected to take 3 to 4 months to complete.
