OLYMPIA - Thurston County Commissioners invite county residents to serve on one of the many boards, commissions and advisory committees that work for the county.-30-
There are more than a dozen advisory bodies who provide advice, guidance and other services to the county through a wide variety of programs. Right now, there is a special need for volunteers for the county's Agriculture Advisory Committee and the Pest and Vegetation Management Committee.
County Commissioners established the Agriculture Advisory Committee in 1978 to advise the Board on public decisions and emerging issues that would significantly impact agriculture. Members also review related local, state, or federal programs, evaluate County efforts to protect and support agriculture; recommend new initiatives; and work closely with WSU Extension and other groups.
The Pest and Vegetation Management Committee is charged with implementation of related policies, review and recommendation of changes to management programs and to assess the implementation of such programs.
County Commission Chair Sandra Romero says the County benefits greatly from volunteers. "The people who serve on these boards and commissions provide an important service for all of us who live in Thurston County. We encourage people to apply for these key positions."
More information on openings and a complete list of advisory bodies and vacancies, can be found under the "Boards and Commissions" tab on the County Commissioner's page on the Thurston County web site.
