Community Talent Show Set for November 6th

OLYMPIA - Thurston Community Television (TCTV), Thurston County's local community media center, is presenting the second annual SHOW OFF! Community Talent Contest.

"The Show Off! Community Talent Contest is a fun way for non-professional entertainers to present their act to the community and gain some recognition," says Deborah Vinsel, TCTV Chief Operating Officer. "It's also a fund raiser for TCTV."

Performers from as far away as Yakima came to the preliminary competition in September. Fifteen acts were chosen for the finals. "When we held the event last year, we only had acts from Thurston County at the auditions," said Vinsel. "This year, several performers from other cities found out about the contest through the internet and came to try out. We're thrilled that the event is gaining recognition around the state. The more the merrier." The SHOW OFF! finals will be held November 6th at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Olympia. The show will also be carried LIVE on TCTV channels 3 and 22 and Tumwater TV Channel 26 on the Comcast cable system in Thurston County. Viewers worldwide can also watch on the internet at www.tctv.net.

Two $500 cash awards will be given to the SHOW OFF! winners and trophies will be given to the second and third place winners. A distinguished panel of judges will pick the Judge's Choice winner. The audience at the theater and at home will pick the Audience Choice by making a pledge of support to TCTV in the name of their favorite act.

Vinsel invites everyone to come down to the Washington Center for the 6 PM show on November 6th. "There is a really special atmosphere in the theater as these acts present their talents. The audience has a good time and that pushes the acts to do better which makes the audience have more fun." Viewers at home and the audience at the theater can 'vote' for their favorite performer by making a contribution to TCTV. Every dollar is a vote so people are encouraged to vote as many times as they want. Vinsel says "The proceeds from SHOW OFF! support the quality community television services that Thurston County residents have come to expect from us."
