"First Impressions" Clothing Closet, Clothing Drive
Clothing drive to be held to fill the County's First Impressions Clothing Closet

OLYMPIA - The Thurston County Office of Assigned Counsel (OAC) is looking for new and gently used items to fill its "First Impressions" Clothing Closet. You can help!

What: "First Impressions" Clothing Closet, Clothing Drive
When: Saturday, July 30, 11am - 4pm
Where: Thurston County Courthouse, 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Olympia WA 98502, Building One Parking Lot, Goodwill Donation Station
What:
  • Collared/button up shirts (men)
  • Slacks - men and women (varied sizes)
  • Belts
  • Business casual dresses and skirts
  • Business casual dress shirts (women)
  • Black/Brown male and female shoes (sizes varied)
  • Nylons
  • Suit jackets (male/female)

Many of the clients of the OAC do not own clothing appropriate for job interviews let alone a trial. Others are held in jail prior to trial and may not have access to anything but the clothes they were arrested in. How people are dressed has a huge impact on how we perceive and treat them. Nobody's liberty should depend on whether or not they can afford clothes that will give them a decent first impression.

In response to the need for their clients to have trial appropriate clothing, the OAC has maintained a closet of suits, shirts, and shoes for their clients. That closet is in need of help! Much of the inventory is worn and it needs to include more sizes of both men and women's clothing. The OAC is accepting new and gently used clothing to fill the closet and help provide those in need with a more favorable first impression.

If you have questions or would like more information about the "First Impressions" Clothing Closet, contact Jacqueline Butcher at 360-786-5892, or by email at butchej@co.thurston.wa.us.
