Public Invited to Comment on Proposed Vehicle Fee
Public hearing at 5:30 August 16

OLYMPIA - The public is invited to give comment on a proposed twenty dollar annual vehicle fee within unincorporated Thurston County, for the purpose of funding certain transportation improvement projects. The proposal comes under the Transportation Benefit District (TBD) established earlier by the County Commissioners.

The three main goals of the TBD program are preservation of transportation infrastructure (including bridges), improved safety for the driving public and increased use of technology. Projects could include pavement preservation and updating bridges to current standards. The TBD Board, composed of the County Commissioners, will approve an annual work plan including specific projects.

If approved, revenue from the twenty dollar annual vehicle fee would be used to fund projects in the transportation system preservation program, identified as the Countywide Resurfacing Program in the 2016-2021 Capital Facilities plan. Additionally, revenue would be used to fund bridge replacement and improvements as identified in the Thurston County Bridge Index.
