Public Hearing Set Regarding Amendments to the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan
OLYMPIA - The Thurston County Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on March 3 regarding proposed changes to the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan. The changes affect housing and working lands policies, regulations governing homeless encampments, as well as the joint plans Thurston County has with the cities of Yelm, Olympia, and Lacey. The proposed changes are part of the 2009 Comprehensive Plan Amendments for the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan.
Chapter 4 Housing and Homeless Encampment Regulations. Amendments to ensure consistency between the Thurston County Consolidated Plan for Housing and the Comprehensive Plan. Adding health and safety requirements to the Thurston County Zoning Ordinance (Title 20), Zoning Ordinance of the Lacey Urban Growth Area (Title 21), Tumwater UGA Zoning Ordinance (Title 22), and the Olympia UGA Zoning Ordinance (Title 23) for homeless encampments.
Chapter 3 Natural Resources. Minor amendments to support the implementation of the proposed Working Lands Strategic Plan.
Olympia Joint Plan Parks and Recreation Chapter. Consider a previously adopted policy by the City of Olympia to define parks service area as including the City of Olympia and the Urban Growth Area.
Yelm Transportation Plan. Updates to the transportation plan and trail and bicycle maps to show projects planned over the next 20 years in the unincorporated Urban Growth Area.
Lacey Updates – Land Use, Housing and Utilities Elements. Updates include housekeeping and demographic updates already adopted by the City of Lacey to reflect new information and to ensure consistency with the Thurston County Comprehensive Plan.
The public hearing will begin at 7:00 pm March 3rd at the Thurston County Courthouse Complex, 2000 Lakeridge Dr. SW, Olympia, WA 98502. Written comments may be submitted in lieu of testimony.
