Sentencing Hearing for Defendant who Assaulted Judge
Sentencing hearing to occur October 12 for defendant who assaulted a District Court Judge in 2012

OLYMPIA - On Wednesday, a pro-tem judge for superior court will preside over the sentencing hearing for Michael Martin. Martin entered a guilty plea on Friday, September 30, 2016 for throwing sulfuric acid on Thurston County District Court Judge Brett Buckley, in 2012.

What: Sentencing Hearing for Michael Martin
When: Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Thurston County Courthouse, Building 2, Courtroom 202

On September 10, 2012, Judge Buckley opened the front door of his Olympia home and saw a man, later determined to be Michael Martin, who threw a liquid in his face. Martin then turned and walked away. Buckley began to follow him but felt the liquid was reacting to his skin.

Buckley was taken to the hospital and treated for chemical burns on his face, arm, and leg. The liquid was determined to be sulfuric acid.
