Public Hearing Set Regarding the Biomass Facility Moratorium.
OLYMPIA - The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on February 7th regarding the adoption of the biomass facility moratorium (Ordinance No. 14449). The moratorium was adopted on December 21, 2010 to allow the County more time to consider the land use and environmental implications of biomass facilities in Thurston County. The moratorium is on new biomass facilities, including conversion (incineration) and gasification, for the purposes of producing electricity, steam, or heat. Also included are interim development regulations defining biomass facilities. -30-
The ordinance also reopened the 2010-11 Comprehensive Plan Amendment Official Docket with a proposal to add this item. A 20-day public comment period is required prior to any additions to an official docket. The official docket public comment period will close on Monday February 7, 2011 at the close of the public hearing.
The public hearing will begin at 5:30 pm February 7th at the Thurston County Courthouse Complex, 2000 Lakeridge Dr. SW, Olympia, WA 98502 in Room 152. Written comments may be submitted in lieu of testimony. Please submit written testimony to Thurston County Planning, Attention: Jeremy Davis, until 4:00 P.M. on the 7th.
