Visit historical shellfish site July 7

OLYMPIA – Visit a fascinating archeological excavation on Mud Bay on Saturday, July 7 and learn how Native Peoples managed shellfish resources over the past thousand years.

This Stream Team event will begin at 9 a.m. in the A/B room on the second floor of the Thurston County Roads and Transportation Building , 2404 Heritage Court in Olympia . From there, participants will travel to the shellfish excavation site on Mud Bay , and then onto the Squaxin Island Tribe's Museum Library and Research Center .

South Puget Sound Community College archeology instructor Dale Croes will discuss discoveries that have been made at the excavation site. Artifacts from the site will also be on display at the museum, including a cedar bark gill net estimated to be about 500 years old.
