Christmas Tree Recycling

OLYMPIA Each year, approximately 100 tons of Christmas trees are recycled within Thurston County .  Before recycling your tree this year, here are some tips: Remove all twine, ornaments, stands, tinsel, and nails.  Flocked trees are ok.  For curbside programs, trees over six (6) feet need to be cut in half.  Multi-family complex residents should check with their property manager for tree placement location, or use the drop-off options (which are underlined below).

Here are some free and low cost options on how to recycle your tree:

All Thurston County residents can bring their Christmas trees for free to the Thurston County Waste and Recovery Center (WARC).  Trees are accepted for free from Dec. 26 through Jan. 15 (except Jan. 1, New Year's Day) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Limbs, boughs and greenery are accepted at yard waste rates ($35 per ton, $5 minimum fee).  After Jan. 15, trees are accepted at yard waste rates.  Directions:  From I-5 take Exit 111, go north on Marvin Road, turn right on Hogum Bay Road, and the WARC entrance will be on the right.  For more information, call the WasteLine at 786-5494 or visit: www.co.thurston.wa.us

Lacey residents should place their trees at the curb by 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3.  Please keep trees away from roadway and do not stack them on street corners.  Do not place trees within 5 feet of garbage cans, otherwise the garbage/recycling hauler (Pacific Disposal), will collect them for a fee (unless you have yard waste service).  For more information about tree pick-up, call the City of Lacey at 491-3214.

Olympia garbage service households should place trees in their normal garbage pickup locations.  Customers with Tuesday or Wednesday service should place trees outside by 6 a.m. on Jan. 7.  Those with Thursday or Friday service should put trees outside by 6 a.m. on Jan. 14.  For more information, call the City of Olympia at 753-8386 or TTY 753-8270 or visit www.ci.olympia.wa.us.
