Volunteers needed to monitor for stream bugs

OLYMPIA -- Stream Team is looking for volunteers to stir things up this summer, specifically stream bugs in 20 local streams throughout Thurston County. No experience is necessary. Stream bugs, known as "macroinvertebrates," live in the bottom of streams and provide valuable information about water quality and the biological health of streams.

Volunteers are invited to attend one of two free training sessions either on June 20 or June 28 beginning at 6 p.m. During the training, volunteers will learn how and why stream bugs are used to assess the health of streams. Monitoring will take place on varying dates and times from late June through early August.

Registration is required. To register and learn the location of the workshop, call Ann Marie Finan at 754-3355 ext. 6857 or e-mail finanam@co.thurston.wa.us.
