Commissioners Approve First Step in Creating New IT Department
The department would be created in 2019 as part of the 2019-2020 budget development process

OLYMPIA – On Tuesday morning, the Board of County Commissioners took the first step in creating a new, stand alone, Information Technology Department.

The new IT Department structure includes shifting staff from the current IT Unit under a proposed new IT Director position, as well as overseeing staff dedicated to IT functions within the departments to ensure consistency and efficiencies across the County.

“Creating this new department is necessary for the County to not be outpaced by new technology and allows for moving forward with vital IT updates,” said County Manager Ramiro Chavez. “A solely dedicated IT Director and department will allow for more focus on IT, allowing the County to better serve citizens as well as staff.”

The next step is bringing the proposal forward during the 2019-2020 biennial budget development process, which will begin late this summer.

If approved for the biennial budget plan, the County will begin recruiting for a new director.
