Comcast Cable Franchise Renewal Public Meeting - July 26, 2018
Cities, County seeking community input on Comcast cable service and future cable-related community needs

OLYMPIA – The Comcast cable franchise agreements with Thurston County and the cities of Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater are up for renewal in 2019. The County and cities are working together to negotiate new agreements, and we want to hear your voice.

A public meeting is being held to gather community input in preparation for negotiations with Comcast. Share your input, in person, with a Comcast representative, or County or city staff member:

When: Thursday, July 26, 2018
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Olympia City Hall 601 4th Ave E, Olympia

According to state and federal laws, county and city officials can negotiate specific issues in the agreement, including programming categories; Public access, Education and Government (PEG) channels; customer service standards; and franchise fees, among other issues.

Unfortunately, these limitations prevent cities and counties from addressing some concerns about Comcast cable and video service including rates, internet and phone service, channel placement, and à la carte options.

More information about the cable franchise renewal process can be found on each jurisdiction's website.
