Public Hearing Set Regarding Amendments to the Thurston County Development Code.

OLYMPIA -- The Thurston County Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on March 17th regarding proposed changes to the Thurston County Development Code (Title 20). The changes affect the land use in several rural zoning districts:
  • RRR 1/5 (Rural Residential Resource one dwelling unit per five acres)
  • R 1/10 (Rural one dwelling unit per ten acres)
  • R 1/20(Rural one dwelling unit per twenty acres)
  • UR 1/5(Urban Reserve one dwelling unit per five acres)

The proposed change would allow public facilities and potentially other Special Uses including schools and churches to be exempt from existing building coverage limits in Thurston County Code (TCC) Sections 20.09A.050, 20.09B.050 20.09C.050, and 20.09D.050. The proposed change would allow building coverage limits to be determined through the Special Use Permit and State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) review processes rather than the existing blanket restrictions. The existing limits place significant limits on building coverage (building size) of rural land uses including fire stations, schools and churches.

The proposed changes are part of the 2009 amendments to the Thurston County Development Code docket.

The public hearing will begin at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 17th at the Thurston County Courthouse Complex, 2000 Lakeridge Dr. SW, Olympia, WA 98502 in Room 152 of Building One. Written comments may be submitted in lieu of testimony. Please submit written testimony to Thurston County Planning, Attention: Scott Longanecker, until 4:00 P.M. on the 17th.
