Antique Appraisals at the Thurston County Fair.

Ever wonder what your antiques and family heirlooms are really worth? Wonder no longer! You can learn by bringing items to the Thurston County Fair on Friday, August 5th from 2-7pm. This new addition to the fair will offer attendees access to professional appraisers, Kathleen Victor and Donald Jensen. Both appraisers specialize in personal property that includes all residential contents, antiques and collectibles.

Although you may bring as many items as you wish, there is a limit of three items per person at one time. However, you can always get in line again with more! Charge for evaluations will be $5 per item. If you bring three different pattern pieces of silver for instance, that would be $15, or a watch and chain counts as two items. Please - No guns or stamps. The cost of evaluations is NOT part of fair admission.

The event will take place just East of Heritage Hall. There will be ample seating for watching or waiting your turn in line. Tickets for evaluations can be bought in the fair office in Heritage Hall, the day of the event.

You may recognize both Kathleen and Donald as routinely appearing in many evaluation events throughout the Puget Sound region. They have been participating professional appraisers in the evaluation booth for the large Palmer-Wirf Antique Shows in Tacoma and Portland for the last ten years.

As a certified appraiser, Kathleen operates Victor Appraisal Services in Redmond, WA. She is fully certified by the International Society of Appraisers and has received her credentials through education of appraisal theory and methodology with the University of Maryland. Since then she has been involved for the past 35 years in retailing, wholesaling and collecting antiques and decorative art. She is an instructor of antiques at Bellevue Community College.

Don Jensen is a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property and a member of the International Society of Appraisers. He has been appraising personal property for 12 years, including seven seasons at on-site locations for the Antiques Road show. He has completed antique and appraisal related courses at Winterthur Museum, University of MA, Lawrence University, Corning Glass Center and the Rockwell Museum. Don specializes in the areas of glass, porcelain and pottery, silver, furniture, and fine art.

This will be a fun, new addition to the fair!
