Thurston County facilities are now open to the public with restrictions, including maintaining physical distancing of at least six feet at all times and, per the Washington State Secretary of Health’s face covering order wearing a cloth face covering or mask. If you come to county facilities, please be prepared for potentially long wait times or lines due to distancing guidelines. We continue to encourage residents to access county services online, by phone, by email, or through the use of drop boxes located outside of county buildings.

Family and Juvenile Court to Celebrate National Adoption Day November 21
Public are invited to attend the ceremonies beginning at 4pm

OLYMPIA – Media and the public are invited to join in Thurston County’s 15th year celebrating National Adoption Day. Thurston County’s Family and Juvenile Court will hold a special event to celebrate all families who adopt and help raise awareness of the 2,167+ legally free children in Washington State foster care awaiting a forever family. Many committed judges, government agencies, lawyers, private individuals, families, and programs have joined together to commemorate this special day. The highlight will be ten local families publicly finalizing their adoptions.

What:  National Adoption Day
When: Thursday, November 21, 2019, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Where: Family and Juvenile Court 2801 32nd Avenue SW, Tumwater, WA 98512
National Adoption Day is now celebrated in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. In Thurston County, more than one thousand children have been adopted by stepparents, domestic partners, individuals, and couples since we started celebrating National Adoption Day in 2004.  These families make a real difference in the lives of children and our community. 
The Adoption Day Ceremony will begin promptly at 4:00 pm. Refreshments and socializing will follow at 4:30 p.m. with activities, including The Dave Thomas Foundation and craft projects from the Hands On Children’s Museum.  

This event is sponsored by Thurston County Superior Court, Family and Juvenile Court, Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families, Thurston County Bar Association, and many local area businesses.
