OLYMPIA –The Thurston County Board of Commissioners (BoCC) will hold a public hearing at the Thurston County Courthouse, Building 1, Room 280, 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW in Olympia, on Tuesday, May 25, at 3:00 p.m. to receive public testimony on a proposal to renew an interim ordinance for emergency housing. There are no proposed changes to the previously adopted interim emergency housing ordinance.
A video conference option will also be available in addition to in-person attendance to ensure those wishing to provide testimony have every option available.

An interim Emergency Housing Ordinance (15792) was adopted by the BoCC on June 25, 2019,was renewed on June 9, 2020 (15902), and renewed and amended on December 9, 2020 (15948). No changes are proposed for the renewal. The Growth Management Act allows the adoption of interim ordinances, and renewal every six months if a public hearing is held.
The interim ordinance allows the Director of the Community Planning & Economic Development Department to waive some of the code standards for emergency housing encampments for up to six months. A public hearing is required to extend waivers beyond six months.
