Thurston County has issued an annual report on the progress toward implementing the 21 Mitigation Initiatives in the county's 2009 Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan.
This progress report is required as part of the Thurston County's recertification under the National Flood Insurance Community Rating System. The rating Thurston County received again this year allows property owners a 25% reduction in their insurance premium when renewing or purchasing flood insurance. The rating came as part of the county's reverification process with the federal government.
- Six of the 21 Mitigation Initiatives have been completed.
- Seven more Mitigation Initiatives will be accomplished when FEMA releases its revised Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps. FEMA is expected to release the maps at the end of the year.
- Six other Mitigation Initiatives are being implemented during the county's update of its Critical Areas Ordinance and Shoreline Management Program.
- The remaining Mitigation Initiatives will be implemented when resources become available.
