Thurston County, WA - Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 7:00pm, the family of Ashley Rene Davis-Jones will honor her memory on the year anniversary of her death at the regional athletic complex (RAC) in Lacey. Ms. Davis-Jones was texting on her cell phone as well as under the influence of alcohol when her Mazda 3 crossed the centerline striking a 1995 Freightliner box truck. She was killed instantly. -30-
Target Zero Thurston is partnering with the family as part of an educational campaign to stop impaired and texting drivers from harming themselves or others. Friends that knew Ashley regarded her as a vibrant, energetic, and full of life young lady. Her decision to drink and drive that night was far beyond her norm.
"You need to have a solid plan in place if you know you will be drinking. Her impairment hindered her ability to make the right decision when it came to not only drinking and driving, but texting and driving as well." says Brittany Sill, Target Zero Manager for Thurston County.
"Collisions like Ashley's are totally preventable. She made two poor decisions that in a split second changed the lives of her family, friends, and loved ones." Says State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill.
Ashley's family never wants this to happen to another family. Target Zero Thurston's goal is zero deaths and disabling injury by the year 2030. To do this, the task force engages in educational and law enforcement campaigns to change these deadly and dangerous driving behaviors.
