OLYMPIA – The Thurston County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing next week, regarding changes to rules regulating mineral extraction. The hearing will be held on April 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., in Room 152, Building One of the Thurston County Courthouse Complex, 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Olympia, Washington, 98502.
The purpose of the hearing is to accept public comment on the draft ordinance relating to the Special Use Permit process and requirements involving mineral extraction under Thurston County Code (TCC) 20.54.070. The draft ordinance includes changes to the process and requirements for obtaining a special use permit for mineral extraction. The amendments include, but are not limited to-
- Exclusion of critical areas and new buffers established under TCC 20.54.070(21), (where mineral extraction activities may be permitted).
- Restrictions on impacts to critical areas.
- Removal of asphalt production and recycling as accessory uses to mineral extraction.
- Other amendments related to permitting mineral extraction as a special use.
The Planning Commission will go into a work session at the conclusion of the hearing.
