OLYMPIA -- In an effort to help citizens regain their driver licenses, or to keep from losing their licenses due to unpaid tickets, Thurston County District Court, and Olympia, Tenino/Rainier, Tumwater and Yelm Municipal Courts and the Lacey Violations Bureau are offering a collection amnesty program for the period 1 - 30 April, 2012. The program applies to instances of unpaid fines for both criminal-traffic and traffic infraction cases.

During that month, the courts and their collection agencies have agreed to waive interest and one-half of the agency fee and to remove the case from credit bureau listing, upon payment in full of the balance owed. For those cases not yet assigned to a collection agency, the courts will remove the $52.00 late penalty, and remove the hold from the driver's license upon payment in full of the remaining fine.

According to District Court Presiding Judge Brett Buckley, "The judges from all our local courts recognize that especially in these difficult economic times, some of our citizens are experiencing financial problems. We have coordinated this program in the hope that many of them will be able to take care of their fines, and regain their driving privileges."

Those with outstanding fines should call the court or collection agency at the numbers listed below, or appear at the court office during regular business hours for assistance.
