OLYMPIA -- The Board of Thurston County Commissioners will hold two public hearings on April 10, 2012 regarding proposed changes to the county's Comprehensive plan and County codes. The purpose of the first hearing is to reevaluate designation criteria for mineral lands of long term commercial significance. The areas proposed to be amended include: the requirement for a Department of Natural Resources reclamation permit, the co-designation of forest and mineral lands, critical aquifer recharge areas, fish and wildlife habitat conservation areas, frequently flooded areas, wetlands, and geologic hazard areas. All of the designation criteria for mineral lands of long term commercial significance are subject to comment and change.-30-
The purpose of the second hearing is to accept comment on proposed amendments to the Thurston County Development Code, and for other matters properly related thereto. The Development Code amendments are part of an annual update process, pursuant to RCW 36.70A.130. The Board of County Commissioners may act on the proposals at the close of the hearing, or recommend changes to the proposed amendments following the hearing. The proposed Development Code amendment subject to the hearing is: A-13 Amend Development Code to allow Cottage Housing Development within the Lacey and Ground Mound Urban Growth Areas (Title 20 and 21).
