Grim Reaper will walk the halls of Rainier High School

Thurston County, WA- Thursday, May 3rd, students at Rainier High School are participating in a nationally based Grim Reaper Program put on by Target Zero Thurston in collaboration with local law enforcement, dispatch, Washington State Patrol, Fire and EMS personnel, and AirLift Northwest. This program is part of a comprehensive, emotional portrayal of what happens when people make tragic decisions while driving. Students will take part in mock crash events in hopes of encouraging teens to make better choices about driving.

Tori Baker, a senior at Rainier HS along with 25 other students have prepared for four months for a week of activities to help their peers make better choices in a car. With funding from a State Farm grant, Target Zero Thurston is able to reach out to our young drivers age 16-25 who remain a top priority along with addressing impaired driving and speed related collisions.

The Grim Reaper program is a reaction to the preventable collisions that cause serious injury and death. The Students Against Drunk Driving club believes impaired and distracted driving is a very big problem at their school.

Friday May 4th is the mock crash and assembly that will begin at 12:45pm in the football stadium/track area, followed by the assembly. Diana Jones, mother of Ashley Jones, will be addressing the audience with her message of how losing her daughter in a February 18th, 2011 collision changed her and her family's lives. Mrs. Jones will be joined by her daughter Cheryce and son Austin.

Media is invited to attend this event at Rainier HS, May 3rd and May 4th. For more information, contact Brittany Sill - 360.239.3445 sillb@co.thursotn.wa.us
